The title quote is taken from William Butler Yeats's poem "The Death of Cuchulain." It refers to the fate of the mythical Irish hero Cuchulain, who perished on the seashore, drowned by the waves—punishment for the accidental death he inflicted on his son. W.B. Yeats was one of the protagonists of the Irish Literary Revival in the 1880s and 1890s, drawing on themes from Celtic literature and Irish folk tradition.
